A nine-member Indian semiconductor and vision hardware consortium, led by Kaynes Semicon and including Netherlands-based NXP Semiconductors and the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (CDAC), has secured contracts to supply more than half a million fully indigenous dash and surveillance cameras by the end of this fiscal year. The consortium comprises Focally, Sensesemi, Sparsh, 3rdiTech, Switzerland-headquartered wireless semiconductor firm u-blox, and global navigation satellite systems company Accord.
The cameras integrate image sensors, optical lenses, artificial intelligence (AI) microcontrollers, and advanced system-on-chip (SoC). Developed locally, these solutions reduce reliance on imported modules and core intellectual property. According to the project report, the consortium is targeting more than 50 per cent localisation in vision hardware by 2026, with plans to scale up to 90 per cent by 2030.
