According to India Cellular and Electronics Association (ICEA), the recently signed India-UK free trade agreement (FTA) will significantly enhance opportunities for the domestic electronics industry to expand its share in the UK’s electronics imports.
Signed on May 6, 2025, the FTA is expected to positively impact manufacturing in both labour- and technology-intensive sectors, opening new export avenues for products such as auto parts, organic chemicals, toys, smartphones, and optical fibre cables (OFCs).
As per the ICEA, the pact will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of India’s electronics manufacturing sector and deepen integration with global value chains (GVCs).
Further, the agreement is projected to double bilateral trade from $60 billion to $120 billion by 2030, offering Indian exporters greater market access. It eliminates tariffs on 99 per cent of Indian exports, boosting the reach of domestically produced electronics, engineering goods, auto components, IT services, and more.
