According to the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India, in the month of June 2013, about 176.50 million subscribers accessed internet through mobile devices. The regulatory authority received data from 12 operators providing data services through mobile except Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited.

At the end of June 2013, Bharti Airtel was the leading service provider offering internet access through mobile devices. The operator had a market share of 26.16 per cent and was followed by Vodafone India and Idea Cellular with a market share of 23.34 per cent and 18.94 per cent, respectively. The other two operators in the top five list of operators providing access through mobile devices included Reliance Communications and Aircel with a market share of 16.25 per cent and 7.60 per cent.

Further, GPRS-EDGE technology had a lion?s share in delivering internet access to subscribers through mobile devices. Other technologies including 3G and CDMA-EVDO had a market share of 1.91 per cent and 3.35 per cent.
