Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI) in association with IMImobile, a global specialist provider of mobile data platform and services to telecom operators and enterprises, have launched a joint study on “Mobile Platform Adoption by Enterprises.”

The report covers detailed sectoral analysis of the state of mobile adoption in India across various geographies. It benchmarks the present state of awareness and use of mobile platform by enterprises.  Commenting on the launch of the report, Vishwanath Alluri, Founder & CEO, IMImobile said, “Our study reveals that enterprises are increasingly adopting mobile data service platforms to engage better with their employees and end-customers. The report also helps platforms providers to recognise the current state of the industry and future potential.”

The key findings of the study are:

Banking, financial services and insurance (BFSI) sector is by far the largest user of messaging services accounting for 19 per cent of the total volume

Application programming interfaces (APIs) are progressively making their way into mobile data service platforms for mobile engagement (m-Engagement)

BFSI sector remains the largest user of APIs accounting for 23 per cent of the API volume and predictably media and entertainment remains the second largest sector with 15 per cent of the API volume.

While the largest part of the usage comes from metros and tier-1 cities, about a third of the usage comes from smaller towns.

Internet search is the primary source of information about platforms.

The National Customer Preference Register (NCPR) regulation from Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) which came into effect from September 2011 has had an interesting effect on the transactional and promotional messaging use.  While the promotional messages predictably went down post September 2011, the number of transactional messages went up correspondingly.
