Starting 16 November, the government plans to conduct nation-wide random tests to ensure that radiation from cell phone towers is within permissable limits.
If the radiation from a tower exceeds the limit, operators will have to pay a fine of Rs 0.5 million. Also, the operator will have a one month deadline to bring down radiation levels to permissable limits, failing which the site would be shut down.
