The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has rejected Tata Teleservices Limited (TTSL)?s claim of first right to 2G spectrum.
The operator has recently told the DoT that any move to award 2G spectrum according to a formula prescribed by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) would amount to serious discrimination against the company, while adding that the company had first right to the spectrum.
T.K. Varada Krishnan, joint wireless advisor, DoT had dismissed TTSL?s claims that the company has been wrongfully placed in the lower order in the priority list for 2G spectrum, according to reports. Krishnan added that its application for GSM airwaves was valid only from 5 March, 2008, the date of receipt of their application for allotment of airwaves and said that applicants prior to that will continue to be placed higher in the queue for airwaves.
