France Telecom has been granted an internet service provider (ISP) licence by DoT. The French company had obtained national and international long distance licences in 2008. Currently, the company’s licences in India are held through its wholly owned subsidiary ?? Orange Business Services ?? which, in turn, holds 74 per cent stake in the Indian entity Global One Indian. However, the ISP application has been made under the name Equant Network Services. France Telecom has told the government that it wants to consolidate all its Indian operations under a single licence and Global One will, therefore, surrender its licences once the government approves the application by Equant Network Services.
