According to Devusinh Chauhan, Minister of State for Communications, the entire country would be covered with 5G network within two years. Also, India has indigenously developed 4G stack and is on the cusp of the development of 5G stack.
Speaking at the Ministerial Roundtable in Plenipotentiary Conference 2022 of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), Romania, Chauhan said that India’s first 5G spectrum sale indicates an enthusiastic response from the industry. He added that a better digital future can only be built on the foundation of pervasive digital infrastructure and by developing digital platforms for the delivery of government services while ensuring that such services reach all citizens of the country.
Further, the minister highlighted the success of the government’s Digital India Initiative and that of the Aadhar and Aadhar Enabled Payment System (AePS). He informed that 400 million transactions of AePS have been taking place every day, which is a fine example of financial inclusion effected through the development of digital infrastructure. Chauhan noted the government’s plans to extend mobile services to all 640,000 villages by 2023 and optical fibre by 2025. He also noted that the government has set up 570,000 common services centres (CSCs) in rural and remote areas, which ensure delivery of various government-to-citizen and other citizen-centric e-services.
Moreover, the minister solicited the support of member countries for India’s re-election in ITU Council and for the election of Mrs. M Revathi as member of Radio Regulation Board.
