The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) will, over the next few days, decide whether to take action against operators for allegedly violating licence rules by tying up with each other to offer 3G services, say news reports.

Meanwhile, DoT has clarified that the broad view emerging after consultation with the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), the Ministry of Law and Justice and various units within DoT, is that such agreements are not permissible.

Bharti Airtel, Idea Cellular and Vodafone Essar had signed pacts among themselves to provide 3G roaming services.

The agreements will permit customers to avail 3G services in areas where at least one of the three companies has spectrum.
