DoT has decided to implement mobile number portability (MNP) simultaneously across the country by March 31, 2010. Earlier, the service was to be launched in two phases –? in the metro and Category A circles by January 2010 and in the rest of the country by April 2010. According to DoT, while some of the access (basic/ mobile) and long distance operators have technically upgraded and augmented their networks and some have established physical links with MNP operators, others are still in the process of doing so.
Since all this is time-consuming, the service providers have been given an extended timeline for completing the due processes.
