In order to encourage operators to share their telecom infrastructure in the rural areas, DoT has offered to upgrade the optic fibre cable network of every company that allows other telcos to use its network. DoT has proposed to fund the network augmentation through the Universal Service Obligation (USO) Fund. DoT has further asked all the service providers to give details of their optic fibre cable network across the country that can be shared for better mobile coverage in the rural areas. These cables will be used for backhaul connectivity between cellular towers.
