The government of Delhi is reportedly planning a major overhaul of the local area network (LAN) and Wi-Fi infrastructure at the secretariat building to support a more advanced digital environment. The current LAN system has been in place for over a decade and now requires modernisation as frequent glitches disrupt workflow and emerging technology demands improved connectivity.

The department of Information and Technology (IT) has undertaken the project to fully upgrade the LAN and Wi-Fi infrastructure to align with present-day digital requirements.

Further, the upgraded system will offer a high-speed, reliable, and secure network to facilitate e-governance functions and internal communication. It will enable seamless access to cloud-based tools and digital platforms across departments, boosting operational efficiency.

The enhancement will also enable high-bandwidth tasks such as video conferencing and help improve overall connectivity, thereby contributing to better productivity and interdepartmental coordination.

Currently, the Public Works Department is conducting a survey of the existing LAN and Wi-Fi systems at the secretariat to identify the necessary upgrades and recommend modernisation work.
