According to Infonetics Research, telecom equipment vendors including Huawei, Ciena, and Alcatel-Lucent were the leading players in the wavelength-division multiplexing (WDM) equipment market in the third quarter of 2013.
In the period under consideration, sales of WDM optical equipment witnessed a growth of 4 per cent over the last year. However, the overall optical spending on WDM optical equipment has declined on a quarter-over-quarter and year-over-over basis. Globally, the optical network hardware market (WDM and synchronous optical networking /synchronous digital hierarchy equipment market) witnessed a decline of 7 per cent sequentially in the third quarter of 2013.
According to Infonetics Research, the WDM spending in North America registered a year-over-year growth of 13.4 per cent in the third quarter of 2013. The growth in the market was driven by a large number of 100G rollouts by Tier 1 operators. However, the spending on WDM equipment in Europe, the Middle East, and the Africa region declined on a year-over-year and sequential basis. The WDM equipment market declined in the Asia Pacific region particularly with Japan witnessing a lower spending on the same.
