Smartphone vendor, Datawind is planning to set up two new manufacturing units in India by January 2016. This move comes with a view to meet the company?s local requirements, as it has stopped importing finished products from China.

According to Datawind, there is a requirement to set up one unit in South and another in Eastern region of the country to facilitate faster supplies in the region. Presently, the company is evaluating on whether to have a captive plant or manufacture mobile devices through contract manufacturers. Datawind has an assembly unit in Amritsar and a manufacturing facility for touch panels.
