The Centre has formally notified a special economic zone (SEZ) for Tata Semiconductor Manufacturing Private Limited in Gujarat’s Dholera special investment region. The SEZ spans 66.166 hectares and includes plots within Dholera’s industrial zone under Town Planning Scheme 2A.
The zone has been designated exclusively for electronic hardware, software and IT-enabled services, positioning it as a key component of the broader semiconductor and electronics value chain.
The notification follows the issuance of a letter of approval in March 2026, after the proposal was found to be in compliance with the provisions of the Special Economic Zones Act, 2005.
In addition to land allocation, the notification provides for the creation of an approval committee to oversee operations within the SEZ. This committee will include representatives from the commerce ministry, tax authorities, customs and the state government, with the aim of streamlining regulatory clearances and coordination.
To facilitate logistics, the government has also designated the SEZ as an inland container depot under the Customs Act, effective April 9, 2026. This will enable the facility to handle import and export cargo more efficiently and reduce reliance on external port infrastructure.
