According to the data released by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), 3,385 5G base transceiver stations (BTS) have been deployed across various states and union territories (UTs) during September 2024.
The total site count in the country went up from 4,53,794 to 4,57,179. Earlier in August 2024, this number went up by around 1500.
Telecom operators have reduced the pace of adding 5G BTS as they are moderating the capex levels towards 5G and focusing more on increasing profitability. Both Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel accomplished their 5G rollout targets earlier this year. Now they are adding BTS and small cells just to improve coverage.
