According to the Ministry of Communications and IT, the state-run operator Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) is investing around Rs 110 billion for improving its services. The investments will be utilised for strengthening its network, modernising BSNL?s telephone exchanges and installing new mobile towers in the naxal-affected areas. Also, BSNL will be investing in consumer care operations and service delivery to improve its overall quality of service.

The ministry has added that BSNL is augmenting its mobile network by installing additional 14,421 2G mobile sites and 10,605 3G sites with an investment of Rs 48.04 billion. For improving its wireline services, it is modernising telephone exchanges with an investment of about Rs 6 billion. To this end, it will also upgrade to a new technology in its exchanges at a cost of Rs 3.50 billion.

Meanwhile, BSNL will install 2,199 mobile towers in naxal-affected areas and also provide mobile connectivity to the uncovered villages in Arunachal Pradesh and two districts of Assam with an investment of Rs 19.75 billion.

Further, the ministry has stated that the Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL) is adding 1,080 3G mobile sites each in Delhi and Mumbai along with 800 2G sites in Delhi and 566 2G sites in Mumbai.
