Bharti Airtel has been shortlisted in the second round of the auction process for Qatar’s second mobile licence which is estimated to be worth $300 million. The seven shortlisted bidders are the ACE consortium (which includes Bharti Airtel), the Argos consortium (which includes Verizon), AT&T, Batelco, Etisalat, MTC (recently rebranded as Zain) and Vodafone. The companies will now be subject to technical evaluation by the regulatory authority of Qatar, following which they will be asked to submit their final bids. Meanwhile, Reliance Communications, which was also in the race to acquire the licence, did not submit the draft bid order for the second round of auction.
