Bharti Airtel has recently implemented an artificial intelligence (AI) solution to identify spam communications on its networks. In Maharashtra alone, the company detected 70 million potential spam calls and over 1.2 million spam messages within a week of deploying this technology. This initiative aims to benefit Airtel customers by helping them recognise potential spam calls and messages.
In India, users should note that the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has designated different numbering series for promotional and transactional calls. Transactional calls from banks and service providers will originate from a 10-digit number starting with 160, while promotional calls will use numbers prefixed with 140.
Additionally, Airtel will send alerts to customers regarding malicious links via SMS. The company has established a centralised database of blacklisted URLs, with an AI algorithm scanning every SMS in real time to warn users against clicking on suspicious links. This solution also identifies anomalies, such as frequent changes in International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI), which can indicate fraudulent behaviour.
