According to the Tower and Infrastructure Providers Association (TAIPA), the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) intervention and states government’s actions in combating misinformation which linked 5G technology to Covid-19 were timely and made a significant impact.

To this end, T.R. Dua, Director General, TAIPA, said that the advent of 5G promises to be a game-changer for the telecom industry and will create major economic opportunities in three to five years.

Dua cited the DoT’s timely intervention as a significant factor in preventing greater issues surrounding Covid-19 and telecom networks.

Despite efforts to dispel such rumours and messages, telecom infrastructure providers have reportedly faced several challenges in the operation and maintenance of existing telecom towers and the installation of new towers because of increasing resistance from miscreant elements. It was clarified by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) that there was no link between the spread of Covid-19 and 5G technology.
