As per the recent data released by Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), Bharti Airtel has added more mobile phone users than Reliance Jio for the third straight month in October2020. Meanwhile, Vodafone Idea (Vi) has continued to cede ground.
The data revealed that Airtel gained 3.7 million wireless subscribers, recording a month on month (MoM) increase of 1.12 per cent. Meanwhile, Reliance Jio’s added 2.2 million subscribers, recording a MoM rise of 0.55 per cent. Vodafone Idea, on the other hand, lost 2.7 million users, recording a decline of 0.9 per cent.
That said, Jio continues to still have the largest number of subscribers at 406.36 million, followed by Airtel at 330.29 million and Vi at 292.84 million. However, Jio also had the highest proportion of inactive users at 21.41 per cent as against Airtel’s 3.26 per cent and Vi’s 11.22 per cent.
As far as the wireless subscriber market is concerned, the total number of subscribes increased by 3.23 million to 1.15 billion. While Jio held 35.28 per cent of the market share, Airtel and Vi held 28.68 per cent and 28.42 per cent, respectively, at end of October 2020.
Meanwhile, in the wireline segment, Jio gained the maximum subscribers with 245,912 additions, taking its subscriber base to 2.3 million users. In comparison, Airtel added 48,397 subscribers taking its subscriber base to 4.5 million.
