Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has announced the availability of a satellite phone priced at Rs 134,166, including taxes, as part of its efforts to expand satellite communication services for defence, maritime and disaster response applications.

BSNL said the satellite phone is designed for use in challenging environments and supports voice calls and SMS services in remote areas beyond the reach of conventional mobile networks.

BSNL has been offering Global Satellite Phone Service (GSPS)-based voice and SMS services to government agencies, private enterprises and the general public since January 1, 2018.

According to the Department of Telecommunications’ guidelines issued on June 12, 2017, BSNL is required to complete the same customer acquisition process applicable to mobile connections before activating satellite phone services.
