Vodafone Essar has re-iterated that the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI)?s 2G pricing recommendations were inconsistent, illogical and discriminatory, according to news reports.

In a statement the company said, ?The recommendations price the same spectrum differently for different operators. This will further aggravate the existing discrimination between the GSM and the dual spectrum operators. As per the recommendations, the price of 1800MHz spectrum varies from Rs 2.68 billion per MHz to Rs 59.43 billion per MHz, a differential of 2,200 per cent with the differential going up 3,300 per cent in case of pricing for 900MHz spectrum.?

According to the TRAI?s recommendations, Vodafone Essar will have to pay an estimated Rs 17.43 billion as a one-time fee for holding more than 6.2 MHz of spectrum. The operator had voiced its concerns earlier over the pricing recommendations along with other GSM operators like Bharti Airtel saying it discriminated against older players.
