Deutsche Telekom is collaborating with Motorola to roll out IPTV services in Germany using Motorola’s high definition (HD)ready IPTV set-top boxes. The collaboration will enable Deutsche Telekom’s “T-Home” customers to access a variety of multimedia applications in addition to standard TV offerings using the Motorola set-top box, which is already equipped for future services. Within the scope of the contract, Motorola will provide T-Home customers with its VIP1616E set-top box, known to THome customers as Media Receiver 300 Type A. T-Home viewers can use the device’s electronic guide to plan, record and store what they want to watch. Its two-way IP capability allows the Motorola VIP1616E set-top box to be used in multiple applications including broadcast TV, time-shifted TV, multicast and video-on-demand.
