Kumar Mangalam Birla has been appointed non-executive chairman of Vodafone Idea Limited (Vi) as the company pursues a turnaround following years of financial strain caused by intense competition and regulatory liabilities, including adjusted gross revenue (AGR) dues.
Birla takes over from Vodafone Group veteran Ravinder Takkar, who has stepped down from the chairmanship but will remain on the board as a non-executive director and assume the role of vice chairman. The changes took effect on May 05, 2026 and were approved by the company’s board, according to an exchange filing.
Birla had previously resigned as non-executive chairman in 2021 amid acute financial stress at the company.
