The minister of information and broadcasting has launched three major initiatives aimed at strengthening India’s media and entertainment sector and promoting the creative economy. The initiatives include a National AI Skilling programme in partnership with Google and YouTube through the Indian Institute of Creative Technologies, the launch of MyWAVES, a citizen creator platform on WAVES OTT, and the rollout of advanced electronic programme guide (EPG) along with in-built satellite tuners in television sets to improve access to DD Free Dish services.

The minister said the measures are aimed at promoting the “Orange Economy”, strengthening public broadcasting and building an artificial intelligence (AI)-skilled workforce in the media and entertainment sector. He added that the initiatives will make technology more accessible and affordable, while enabling easier access to content without the need for additional equipment.

He described MyWAVES as a platform that allows users to create, upload and share content, thereby strengthening India’s digital ecosystem. He also encouraged creators to use platforms such as Doordarshan and MyWAVES to showcase India’s cultural and regional diversity.

The National AI Skilling initiative, being implemented with support from YouTube, aims to train around 15,000 youth free of cost in areas such as animation, visual effects, gaming, comics and media technology.

The programme will be conducted in two phases. The first phase, from March 23 to June 30, 2026, will focus on foundational AI learning through Google Career Certificates and Google Cloud generative AI courses, covering modules such as AI essentials, prompting and introductory generative AI concepts.

The second phase, scheduled from July to December 2026, will offer advanced, hands-on and project-based training tailored to the creative sector. It will include modules on storytelling, YouTube best practices and advanced AI tools such as Gemini 3, Nano Banana, Veo and Vertex AI, with training to be conducted across major cities.

The ministry said the initiative is expected to equip creators, students and media professionals with future-ready skills and support India’s emergence as a global hub for digital content and innovation.
