Vodafone India registers 16.2 per cent increase in service revenue in quarter ended June 30
Vodafone Group Plc has announced its results for the quarter ended June 30, 2012
In India, the company registered 16.2 per cent increase in service revenue, driven by an 8.6 per cent increase in the closing customer base, strong growth in incoming and outgoing mobile voice minutes and 1.6 per cent growth in the effective outgoing rate per minute.
The company’s Indian operations, Vodafone India, witnessed lower growth in this quarter, compared to the fourth quarter of financial year 2012. Growth in this quarter was 4.9 percentage points lower, which had benefited from higher year-on-year customer growth.
According to the company, this slowdown can be attributed to regulatory changes, which impacted the way integrated tariffs can be offered to customers. Also, Indus Towers registered low growth rates, following a slowdown in tenancies from new entrants and a change in the pricing structure for some existing customers.
Data revenue grew by 12.4 per cent, driven by the increase in data customers and higher penetration of data enabled handsets. As on June 30, 2012 active data customers totaled approximately 31 million1 including around 1.7 million 3G data customers.
