The union minister of Electronics and Information Technology has approved the establishment of the ‘NaMo Semiconductor Laboratory’ at IIT Bhubaneswar. The project, estimated to cost Rs 49.5 million, will be funded under the Members of Parliament Local Area Development (MPLAD) Scheme.

The lab aims to strengthen India’s semiconductor ecosystem by developing a deep talent pool equipped with industry-ready skills. It will position IIT Bhubaneswar as a key centre for semiconductor research and workforce training, supporting the country’s growing network of chip manufacturing and packaging units.

The initiative is expected to further accelerate the ‘Make in India’ and ‘Design in India’ missions, serving as a catalyst for India’s rapidly expanding semiconductor ecosystem.
