The union minister for Communications and Development of north eastern region has announced that Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited’s (BSNL) indigenously developed 4G network will be upgraded to 5G within the next six to eight months. He noted that India has now joined the exclusive group of countries capable of developing 4G technology, a domain previously dominated by just five companies worldwide.
The minister highlighted that the prime minister recently inaugurated 92,564 telecom towers built with domestic technology, extending connectivity from Kashmir to Kanyakumari and Bharuch to Arunachal Pradesh through India’s own 4G standard.
He also pointed out that geopolitical turbulence has intensified over the past five years, with global conflicts and protectionist policies creating trade barriers. At the same time, “climate shocks” are exposing economies to greater vulnerabilities, and inflation is impacting households across both developing and developed nations.
The minister added that India has emerged as a fulcrum for the Global South and said innovation is flourishing in the country, with major global technology firms maintaining a strong presence in India.
