According to the founder and chief scientist of Zoho, Arattai, the company’s indigenous messaging app which has recently surged in popularity, will soon establish a dedicated data centre in Odisha. The move follows a sharp rise in new users, many dubbing it a WhatsApp alternative after the union minister of Electronics and Information Technology urged adoption of Indian digital platforms.

Additionally, Arattai, launched in 2021, had been gearing up for a major relaunch in November with expanded features and infrastructure, but saw a dramatic turnaround after recent social-media promotions by central government leaders.

Further, the founder said daily sign-ups jumped from about 3,000 to 350,000 within three days, prompting Zoho to add infrastructure “on an emergency basis” to manage the exponential traffic growth.
