According to findings by Ookla (for July to December 2024), Jio was the fastest mobile provider in India during second half (H2) 2024, across all technologies combined. It recorded a median 5G download speed of 258.54 Mbps, and an upload speed of 14.54 Mbps. It was also the best mobile network in India after leading for both fastest mobile network and best mobile coverage.

Meanwhile, Airtel offered the best video streaming experiences and 5G gaming in India during H2 2024. Further, Excitel Broadband was the fastest internet service provider (ISP) in India during the reported period with a median download speed of 117.21 Mbps, and a median upload speed of 110.96 Mbps.

Furthermore, the study mentioned that Jio had the speed score of 174.89, and it led on median download speed, recording 158.63 Mbps, ahead of next placed Bharti Airtel, which recorded 100.67 Mbps, and Vodafone Idea Limited (Vi) India with 21.60 Mbps. Jio recorded a median upload speed of 8.93 Mbps, and a latency of 62 ms.

Further, the study mentioned that Jaipur had the fastest median mobile download speed among India’s most populous cities, recording 181.68 Mbps. Kolkata (146.7 Mbps) was second, followed by Ahmedabad (135.21 Mbps) in third. At the other end of the scale, Mumbai had the slowest median mobile download speed at 75.75 Mbps, followed by Pune (97.78 Mbps) and Chennai (101.19 Mbps). Jio was the fastest provider across nine cities.

In case of fixed line, Excitel had the best fixed network among ISPs in India during this period, based on data, with an overall connectivity score of 74.56.

It further noted that Bengaluru had the fastest median fixed download speed among India’s most populous cities, recording 90.2 Mbps. Delhi was second (84.88 Mbps), followed by Chennai (79.3 Mbps) in third. At the other end of the scale, Surat had the slowest median fixed download speed at 50.21 Mbps, followed by Jaipur (50.24 Mbps) and Kolkata (52.43 Mbps). Excitel was the fastest provider across four cities, followed by ACT Fibernet in two.
