AT&T will deploy open radio access network (Open RAN) radios from Mavenir as part of its open, multi-vendor, programmable wireless network strategy.

Mavenir joins Ericsson and Fujitsu as AT&T’s 5G radio vendors.

In 2023, AT&T signed a multi-year $14 billion ORAN deal with Ericsson, under which, Ericsson will be the telco’s primary 5G network vendor. The deal will also see the replacement of Nokia’s legacy equipment, and onboard other Open RAN vendors such as Fujitsu.

According to AT&T, these ORAN radios will be open C-band radios (TDD 44R) and dual band radios (B25/B66 FDD 44R) which can be attached to existing utility and light poles. Furthermore, the radios will be managed by Ericsson’s Intelligent Automation Platform (EIAP).
