The National Informatics Centre Services Inc. (NICSI), operating under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), plans to launch data centre operations in Guwahati, Assam, by March 2025.

This initiative is part of a larger investment exceeding Rs 6 billion by the government, aimed at enhancing digital infrastructure in India’s northeastern region. The new data centre will primarily serve various government departments and agencies across northern and central India.

NICSI has been actively investing in information communication technology (ICT) infrastructure to support state-led digital transformation efforts and improve citizen-centric services. The organisation has already established multiple data centres in cities like Delhi, Pune, Hyderabad, and Bhubaneswar.

In addition to the new facility in Guwahati, NICSI has partnered with RailTel Corporation through a memorandum of understanding to utilise RailTel’s data centre for hosting servers for public sector customers. The company’s investments also extend to various digital products such as e-office and e-procurement systems, which are currently utilised by numerous government entities.
