As per the report by the Working Group on the telecom sector, the volume of the business of the telecom equipment in India will be worth Rs 2,500 billion by 2017.
This growth will be on account of launch of 4G services, (using broadband wireless access licenses) as well as 3G and 2G expansions by the operators. The growth will also be aided by the increase in broadband penetration across the country.
Presenting the report in the Lok Sabha, Milind Deora, Minister of State for Communications and IT stated that the Telecom Equipment Manufacturers Association (TEMA) has raised concerns regarding the country?s national security due to presence of large scale imported telecom equipments in operators? networks.
According to TEMA, due to the presence of foreign vendors the telecom network is susceptible to the threats including data mining-harvesting, information leak, service denial and degradation of service, abuse and fraudulent use of telecommunication resources and long term technological dependence on foreign vendors.
