Telecom infrastructure provider, UTStarcom plans to invest $20 million to set-up a manufacturing base in India to expand its presence in the country.

The United States-based company is open to creating a joint venture for establishing manufacturing facility in the country. For UTStarcom, a growing telecom user base, increasing penetration of mobile devices and strong policy support makes India an attractive investment destination. The company sees India as one of the biggest manufacturing hubs for telecom equipment.

In addition to setting-up a manufacturing unit, UTStarcom is also looking at reviving its research and development (R&D) activities in the country. Earlier, in 2012, the company had closed down its R&D centre in Gurgaon because of internal issues.
