
The spectrum auctions have ended with the government receiving bids of Rs 1,098.74 billion at the end of the nineteenth day (March 25, 2015) and 115 rounds of auctions. The cumulative amount received is 33 per cent higher than the reserve price.
The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has not disclosed the details of the final results of the auction due to Supreme Court?s orders. A hearing in the apex court in this regard is scheduled for March 26, 2015. According to provisional data released by the DoT, 418.05 MHz of spectrum was sold out of the 470.75 MHz of spectrum put up for auction.
According to DoT, Rs 729.64 billion will come from sale of spectrum in the 900 MHz band, almost double of the total reserve price of the spectrum. The government will receive Rs 171.58 billion from 800 MHz band, where prices have increased in 14 of the 18 circles. It will receive Rs 101.15 billion from 2100 MHz band where prices increased from the base price in 10 circles of the 14 circles. The remaining Rs 96.36 billion will come from 1800 MHz band, where prices increased in nine of the 14 circles.
On the nineteenth day, in the 900 MHz band, high bidding activity was witnessed in the Punjab and Haryana circles. Meanwhile in the 1800 MHz band, aggressive bidding was seen for spectrum in the Tamil Nadu circle. In the 800 MHz band, the focus was on Northeast and Madhya Pradesh circles, which witnessed high bidding activity.
