Idea Cellular has launched its 3G services on the 900 MHz spectrum band in the Delhi circle. With this, Idea Cellular has expanded its 3G network to 12 circles in India. In addition to this, the company has been providing 3G services through intra-circle roaming arrangements with other telecom operators in nine circles.
The company had announced its plans to launch 3G services on the 900 MHz band, after winning spectrum in the February 2014 auction. The company?s network in Delhi region comprises over 4,700 sites on 2G and over 5,000 hops. The network is being modernised with the addition of 3G sites, to cater to the future demand of mobile data services. Idea Cellular is also in the process of setting up service centres in the Delhi-NCR region to service the mobile consumers.
The 900 MHz spectrum band is considered superior due to in-building propagation characteristics and the company is of the view that this will allow its 3G subscribers in the Delhi circle to experience better indoor connectivity for both voice and high-speed data services.
