
Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has earmarked investments of Rs 10 billion for launching Skype service and setting up of Wi-Fi hotspots in South zone. These investments will be made over a period of five to six months.
At present, BSNL is in the process of converting its existing telephone exchanges in Chennai and other key markets into next generation network exchanges. Once the process is completed, the operator plans to introduce services such as Skype for its landline subscribers.
Further, in an attempt to boost its revenues, BSNL is also focusing on promoting its Wi-Fi services. The operator has identified about 14 popular tourist places in South zone where it plans to set-up Wi-Fi hotspots for users.
