China-based telecom equipment manufacturer Huawei Technologies has established a research and development (R&D) facility in Bengaluru with an investment of $170 million. The centre is the first by a China-based vendor and has an employee base of 2,700 people, with 98 per cent local workers.

According to the company, the facility will be used for developing high quality software platforms, components and applications for the various product lines of Huawei.

Meanwhile, the company is targeting selling at least 10 million smartphones in India over the next two-three years.
