The Taiwan-headquartered firm, MediaTek has launched its 4G long term evolution (LTE) chipset MT6595. According to the company, the chip is the first octa-core 4G LTE Sytstem on Chip (SoC) in the world.

MediaTek is targeting to sell around 300 million chips in 2014 including 30 million 4G LTE chips. The company is optimistic that sale of these chips will further increase in 2015 and 2016, as LTE technology gets rolled out in more markets.

The newly designed chipset will compete with the US-based chipmaker Qualcomm?s Snapdragon 800 family.

The company is currently in talks with many Indian handset makers to launch their products with MT6595. Moreover, MediaTek has already announced an investment of $200 million in India. It also launched its second facility in Bangalore after Noida to boost research and development capabilities.
