According to the data released by Cellular Operators? Association of India (COAI), the GSM subscriber base in the country increased from 721.93 million in March 2014 to 726.90 million in April 2014.

In the month of April, 2014, the operators added 4.97 million new subscribers.

In the month of April, the country?s leading operator Bharti Airtel added maximum number of subscribers ? 1.19 million, taking its total user base to 206.58 million. Meanwhile, the second highest number of subscribers were added by Uninor. The operator ranked sixth in the market added 0.97 million new GSM users to take its total subscriber base to 36.58 million. The country?s third-largest operator Idea Cellular added about 0.77 million new subscribers and the operator?s total subscriber base stood at 136.56 million.

Other operators including Aircel, Vodafone India and Videocon Telecom added 1 million, 0.73 million and 0.30 million subscribers, respectively. Meanwhile, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited and Loop Mobile did not add any new user in the month of April, whereas Mahanagar telephone Nigam Limited lost 0.13 million users.

As per COAI, among circles, Uttar Pradesh (East) added the maximum number of users (1.09 million) in March 2014. The total subscriber base in the circle at the end of March 2014 stood at 63.86 million.
