According to data released by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), operators added eight million mobile customers in March 2012.
With this, the total telephone user base in the country stood at 951.34 million.
Of this, Bharti Airtel added 2.50 million new subscribers, taking its mobile phone base to 181.27 million in the period under consideration.
Idea Cellular added 2.01 million users while Uninor, Reliance Communications, Vodafone India and Sistema Shyam Teleservices Limited added 1.29 million, 1.04 million, 1.02 million and 0.42 million new users, respectively.
Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) and Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL) added 0.76 million and 58,681 new users respectively.
Aircel, Tata Teleservices Limited and Videcon lost 0.68 million, 0.14 million and 0.24 million subscribers in March 2012.
