The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has informed the Supreme Court that it is still examining the role of former Minister of Telecommunications and IT, Dayanidhi Maran in the Aircel deal.
It is believed that Maran allegedly coerced Aircel?s promoter, C. Sivasankaran, into selling the firm to the Maxis Group in March 2006.
The CBI said that it had evidence of a deliberate delay in granting the letter of intent to Aircel, while C. Sivasankaran was at the helm, and that the process was speeded up after the Maxis Group took over.
However, no evidence of coercion on Maran?s part has been uncovered, the agency added. Also, the Maxis Group was in touch with Maran and his brother, before taking over takeover Aircel from Sivasankaran.
