DoT has presented its wish list for the Budget for the fiscal year ending March 2013.
It is reportedly lobbying for infrastructure status for the sector.
The department has also suggested tax exemptions for manufacturing of telecom equipment, rationalisation of value-added tax for mobile phones and their components that currently vary up to 12.5 per cent in different states of India.
Further, it has proposed to abolish service tax on internet and broadband services.
