R. Chandrasekhar, secretary, Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has said that DoT is yet to decide on the voluntary retirement schemes (VRS) of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL).

He said, ?BSNL has put forward a proposal but a final decision on it has not been taken as yet. There is a substantial financial obligation involved, which needs to be examined before any view is taken,? he said.

Both BSNL and MTNL had submitted a proposal approved by their boards to seek financial support from DoT for implementation of VRS. MTNL had submitted a proposal seeking 100 per cent financial support from DoT, while BSNL had asked DoT for close to Rs 180 billion.
