The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has said that Dayanidhi Maran?s decision to delay spectrum allocation during his tenure as Minister of Telecommunications and IT had caused substantial revenue loss.

The agency plans to mention this in its chargesheet against Maran. Meanwhile, it has asked the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) to calculate the exact amount of loss.

The CBI?s FIR against Maran stated, ?Delays in allocation of spectrum for various circles resulted in a loss of revenue to the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), which could have been accrued to it by way of entry fee, licence fee and spectrum charges.?

Maran allegedly delayed allocation of spectrum to Aircel until it was taken over by Maxis Communications.

The FIR adds, ?The Ministry of Defence had informed DoT about the availability of spectrum in 2005. However, allocation was approved by the then DoT secretary Dr J.S. Sarma and spectrum was allotted to Aircel in 2006, after the Aircel-Maxis deal.?
