The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has said that Former Minister of Telecommunications and IT, A. Raja had followed the policy laid down by the government, while allocating 2G spectrum.
Prior to this, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had said that in 2008, Raja collaborated with various operators to give them out-of-turn mobile licences and 2G spectrum. The agency added that it was impossible to determine the losses caused to the exchequer by Raja allotting mobile licenses in 2008.
Besides, Raja had claimed that he followed the prescribed norms and that the former Prime Minister and then finance minister P. Chidambaram had approved his course of action. He added that at that time, the policy required him to sell and not auction spectrum.
On September 15, 2011, a special court assigned to hear the 2G case will decide if charges against Raja should be framed.
