
According to data released by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), for the June 2011 quarter, Bharti airtel paid Rs 11.77 billion to the government as licence fees and spectrum usage charges. Bharti was followed by Vodafone Essar, which paid a combined amount of Rs 7.02 billion and Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited and Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited paid a total of Rs 6.12 billion.
Similarly, Tata Teleservices Limited paid Rs 3.08 billion, Idea Cellular paid Rs 4.97 billion and Reliance Communications paid Rs 2.63 billion in the quarter under consideration.
New players like Etisalat DB, Unitech Wireless, Loop Telecom, STel and Sistema Shyam TeleServices Limited paid Rs 807.8 million in the same period.
