The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) is expected to issue notices to 20 more operators for licence cancellation, owing to their inability to meet rollout obligation norms, say news reports.

Prior to this, DoT, in the second week of March 2011, issued notice for licence cancellation to Etisalat DB and Idea Cellular. Etisalat DB was sent a notice for cancellation of its licence in Mumbai and Delhi and Idea Cellular for Punjab.

The notice sent to Etisalat is as per the recommendations of the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India, which had asked the government to impose a penalty and cancel as many as 69 new licences for not rolling out services within the stipulated timeframe.
