BSNL has lost the contract for managing the telecom networks of the state-owned Ethiopian Telecommunications Corporation (ETC) to France Telecom.

BSNL has lost the contract for managing the telecom networks of the state-owned Ethiopian Telecommunications Corporation (ETC) to France Telecom. The contract involved managing ETC’s networks and operations on behalf of the Ethiopian government. Though BSNL had bid aggressively for the contract, it lost out on other criteria in the overall evaluation process, including its operational performance in the domestic markets.

The operator has been looking to enter the African market and is also currently in talks with Zambia Telecom to acquire a 70 per cent stake in the company.
